Hey! I work for Walmart as a Data analyst and I like working for Walmart as a company but what I’ve seen is that people who switch roles internally or if they get a promotion are not paid as much as someone who comes in outside. Due to this reason, my peers who have joined Walmart from outside earn a lot more than I do. I am not keen on switching companies but I wonder where that mindset comes from? Shouldn’t people who stay with the company be rewarded as well? #salary #walmart #tech
Happens everywhere. Managers will pay you the minimum they think is needed to keep/hire you. Given the hassle and work needed to switch jobs, the current employees always get less than the new employees.
It's for recruiting and getting new talent. The folks coming in have different compensation expectations collectively than those already internal. That said, some people find success switching from Walmart to Sam's or vice versa, but otherwise you should look for a new position as opposed to expecting a retention bonus or promotion to level you with incoming/external folks. Not saying I agree with it, but just stating what I have observed. There is a perception (regardless whether founded or not) that the current state of engineering or talent is not adequate internally, so focus is on acquiring new talent vs rewarding tenured talent...
Happens everywhere all the time tbh
