Back even couple of years ago and prior to COVID as well, one needs to be super bad to be put on pip@Walmart but the bar to meet expectations rose so much and Walmart became a mini-Amazon aka pipmart. Even decent folks are getting pipped, toxicity increased with an influx of b@st@rd WITCH managers and the quality of managers dropped a lot with majority of them being people managers. What caused this change? Walmart used to have an image that pay and raises were okayish with a decent brand to have on resume but well renowned for their stability and non-pip culture. Many teams like marketplace, last mile and personalization got super toxic but overall better avoid joining here if you got any new offers. TC:$190k #pipmart
That seems to be industry specific. Many companies that were known for good WLB and stability couple of years back are in same league. Either at the org level and sometimes at business unit.
I second this. I am with op.If you are good performer then definitely bad managers will put you on pip because they feel insecure. Quality of managers and leaders is very bad. Amazon has some decent work and name where you will at least learn and find good job outside. Include Global Tech Platform team in this list too. Engineering, Product, Program all streams are low quality. If you give good design suggestion to dumb principal engineer then you will be on pip, if you suggest good process change to program leader then you will be on pip. It doesn’t matter if you work on any impactful work.
On point, now everything that I see is driven by unrealistic timeliness, managers that the first thing they do is to call you even if they are not your manager. Build software first determine requirement last. I can see that in Atlas as well.
Thanks for the info
WITCH managers are the worst.
Thanks for the heads up, OP. I wish the declining culture of companies would be discussed more often as a perk or decline of joining. Here’s hoping you find something better soon. TC: 105K
Yeah..don’t want others leaving their probably stable jobs/better cultured workplaces to get into trouble as many of us fell for the brand name.
It doesn’t take a hard guess to know where many of these WITCH managers are from, and many of them have descended into Walmart and Amazon. Walmart has also hired a bunch of Amazon failures as well and they well mostly turned out to be absolutely incapable and toxic. I would say if you are non Indian definitely stay away. Most teams are will only bring you in as a diversity hire and will never promote you. Even if you are Indian, well you know what to do as the bias is just off the charts. If you are on an OK team consider yourself hitting the jackpot
Agreed! Stay away! Better companies with better pay are available! Immature insecure managers who can’t work with senior people! Best way is PIp them out. Some leave without accepting PIP! These are managers with no management experience except WM.
Not only above mentioned teams, other teams as well, main reason poor and incompetent engineering managers plus the bar of hiring fell immensely and they started hiring culture unfit people for work, these people just do politics and toxicity and they are responsible for moving out the old people from Walmart. Its pipmart and toxicmart and managemart now. They don't even consider aes feedback.
That’s correct. AES is a joke.
Is the situation same in "Enterprise Business Services". I am in loop for a very high senior IC role in that org.
Yes..EBS is one of the most f***** up orgs..check previous blind queries
