Was Amazon always like this since its earlier days?

From an anthropological point of view, was Amazon always like this? I know that stack ranking and hunger games in corporate world was first invented in General Electric then the Torch was passed to Microsoft under the reign of Steve "Cocaine sweat" Ballmer before discontinued in 2013. When did Amazon become like it is today? It is literally the septic tank where the most toxic human beings congregate? was it always like this?

When were URA quotas introduced? I think we can find the answer somewhere around there. Amazon has always been high performance like many other tech companies, they all have performance management mechanisms. But Amazon’s system is more draconian and because Amazon hires far more SDEs than anyone else, the network effect across the industry is multiplied. If URA quotas were better implemented and more transparent (for example a simple firing with large severance, like Netflix) it wouldn’t be so bad.

It seems to teams actually revolve round this quota. things were done mindful of this. It is like the Squid Game with jobs.

Amazon is the company all companies wish they were and are slowly working on becoming.

Sadly that is true. There are so many Jeff wannabes just can't pull it off.
