Hi, I have got an offer from Wayfair, Berlin for the role of Senior Software Engineer. I am not entirely convinced if I should accept it despite decent pay and generous stocks. The tech stack is not very interesting (php and mysql) and Glassdoor has mixed reviews on the company. However, i would like to hear from a current or former employee, possibly from the Berlin office before I reach a conclusion. Thanks!
Have a friend working in their Boston office. He says lots of politics and no room for growth
Thanks for the info. Any idea on what's the attrition rate !?
Massive levels of attrition, at least 40% YoY
TC or GTFO
It’s good if you want to build your resume. Berlin is not so bad as boston. But a lot of the bull goes down hill. Usually people only stay for about a year or two. Unless your total comp is perfect do it.
The total comp is a lot better than what Scout24 Immbobilien is offering me but I find the work at Scout24 to be more interesting and challenging.. (search team)
We have a search team too, but entirely based in Boston. The search team works in MSSQL, Solr, Python, PHP, Redis, and Java.
apparently they are building up the team in Berlin and with huge recruitment waves, attrition is normal (even 40%). when speaking with employees I didn't understand their policy for remote work and home office... did you?
I think they are flexible with you working from home once in a while.
Berlin is not an expensive place to stay. For a senior software engineer, you can expect at least 65K Euros per year. I am still negotiating, hoping to get at least 80K. Amazon in Berlin pays well.
Wayfair's salary is not generous
Yes. I must say, though, it's above average in Berlin.
I work with Berlin and I don’t know why anyone stays there. The management team is incompetent and the growth potential non-existent.
After I did the interview with Wayfair Berlin, I was really surprised how much this company love hiring consultants. In their logistics team, both the associate director and operations manager are consultants right before joining Wayfair, which is so different from Amazon. Other people with real industry experience seems to be sidelined. Not sure why it is like this.
Flexibility
Did you finally join Wayfair? If yes, share your TC.
What’s the TC?
