Wow, this is the first I’ve heard of someone being let go in response to them giving notice here. Really shitty if true.
When I gave my notice I offered two weeks but said I was happy to go before that since I'd already wrapped up most of my in progress stuff. I stayed only as long as it took to ensure my team found new teams they'd be happy on.
Also, you were not paid for the first week of work at Wayfair, so you will get that pay after you leave. Nickel and dime. Nickel and dime.
Did they go to a competitor?
My manager? He didn't have a job setup. He was basically fired, with a two week notice, but got kicked out before then
Wow Wayfair is terrible
After this shit show don't give them any notice, they didn't give us any. It's not legally required so forget it.
Meh, just the fact that people were so surprised about layoffs says an awful lot. I have friends and relatives at other companies (accenture, amazon, etc) where layoffs are a way of life. As far as corporate life goes, this was nothing and should be expected at a company of this size
Most of the time I’ve given my two weeks notice, I was asked to leave the next day
Are you client facing? If so that makes sense
People can quit or been fired at anytime: “Employment at will” If you notice the trend be smart and quit your last day.
True that. I am quitting the day before last. If they are sensible they will use my time sensibly
Curious to how many hours you guys are actually working in a given 40 hour work week. The Boston Globe said Wayfair said for the non-layoff people to be more efficient.
I'd wait for a severance. How long have you and your manager been/were there?
By law you are required to have your PTO paid out to you when you are fired or quit. At least in Massachusetts and 20 something other states.
A manager has zero owed PTO since they have unlimited
I think this would be true for L4+ yes. But if you’ve “accrued” PTO because you don’t have unlimited, the company would have to pay it out to you.
