Interviewed at WeWork in NYC. Know I’m currently somewhat underpaid in my current role, about 160k TC right now with ~2 YoE. ICT3. Want to move to NYC but am unsure if taking a role at WeWork would be beneficial for my career. Expecting a 4-5% raise + RSU refresher in Oct, though the refresher isn’t a given. They’re giving a lot of promises on upward growth since they’re expanding a lot right now. Haven’t received the offer yet, but wanted some thoughts on whether it’d potentially be worth it to leave and what kind of comp I should really be looking at to justify it?
Don’t. Go to fb or google instead
Why? Google is a no go right now–got rejected from a split decision some months ago so I’d have to wait to reapply. Also, the role that I work is not common in NYC. Most of the people in my area are in the Bay Area so I don’t think Facebook is an option, though I can certainly look into it. I have a few connections there.
I have 9 years of experience. My WeWork offer was about 200k TC. I rejected.
Oh wow, that seems incredibly low for 9 YoE. How long ago was this?
This was a few weeks ago
Why is WeWork hiring so many engineers? What problems do they need solved?
What did you decide?
Undecided. I have some time to consider.
Are you an engineer OP? Salary doesn’t seem too bad if business side.
Engineer. Base salary right now is 110k.
Wework pays really low for ICs and Managers.
How much did they offer you and did you take it?

160k, 2 yoe and feeling you are underpaid, no wonder why it’s increasingly difficult to live in Bay Area.
I know that my peers who got hired after me all make more than me by at least 10k-20k
Not just that, but it’s still incredibly tough to afford to live out here while saving anything for the future, especially with how much of my TC is stock. 2 years and all I have is a couple thousand dollars in the bank and my 401k because most of my money goes to rent in an area thats comparatively boring when compared to NYC. Sure the weather is decent, but the food out here is mediocre, you can’t walk anywhere, and everything is overpriced.
