I started smoking last year Feb and was on and off. From December I was regular and smoking every day. Used to finish all my stuff, smoke and either leetcode or watch movies. Slowly it became a habit and have been smoking or doing edibles every night. I never took it seriously or thought was addicted but knew my tolerance levels have increased. Lately I realized I have been physically addicted as I wasn’t able to sleep when I went to my family get together for weekend , the two days. I smoked the next week and realized I have to break the addiction, use it just as a recreational tool may be once in fortnight. Its been 1 week from then, I am hardly able to sleep. No sleep aid tablets are working, no gym is working and no diet is working. I am feeling more anxious, restless and sleepless. I am seriously thinking of meeting doctor but I am afraid this might go on records and not sure how it could affect my opportunities if I apply for high security clearance jobs. (This is my ultimate aim). Trust me weed is very subtle drug but pls understand its a drug and any drug abuse will cost you. Also this differs from body to body and not every body is addictive to weed but you never know just play safe is my 2 cents. Any help is heavily appreciated from fellow smokers 🤯, thanks.
Try with lowering quantity but at same frequency. While you are reducing weed start doing yoga or more gym time. This will have immediate effect on resolving sleep issue. Once you are convinced you can do with less quantity, try with reduced frequency while increasing frequency for gym or other activity. See if this works. Whichever alternative you pick, don’t go with another addictive habit.
There's a half baked joke in here somewhere
What makes you think so!!
If you drink a lot of booze it will help you quit weed
A natural weed killer is vinegar.
Switch to drinking for a week then switch to ZQuill medicine from there. Maybe try Ambien for a short stint of a month or two to transition to healthy sleep. Dont take Ambien long term though unless you like depression.
Ambien is regularly prescribed for long long periods of time. I think Ambien works well for 1 - 3 months, but it can slowly have negative effects such as negative feelings and depression. This effect takes time and would definitely not be a problem for 30 days at all.
Here’s the problem. You can never truthfully apply for high security clearance until they remove the marijuana question. Why? If you lie on your clearance questionnaire you just committed a federal crime. So, go to your doctor. HIPAA covers your private afflictions from prying eyes.
Thanks guys. I was looking if any natural alternatives worked good for any one. I believe in cold turkey method because the others never worked for me. I am past 1 week, I never have an urge to smoke pot now but have been having anxiety, serious sleep issues, confusion feelings.
Exercise and meditate to modulate your mood, feelings and anxiety. Any compulsive habit needs to be teplaced, not just repealed. You have an established neural connection that compelled you to repeat a behavior, that connection can die but it's easier to replace that behavior with healthier alternatives. Some of the most avid gym goers or obsessed entrepreneurs I know have had a history in addiction in different degrees of severity.
@OP I'd suggest you use something like Melatonin to help you get sleep. It's not as intense as a sleeping pill but it tells your body it's night time and automatically induces sleep. I'd recommend you go cold turkey though. I tried weaning off it and that didn't work because some trigger would ultimately make me double down (it was a matter of time). One thing that did help me was throwing away all the equipment and substances (ex: vape, herb/wax). That's the one thing that will force you to find healthier substitutes for your addiction. All the best. PM me if you have any questions.
Thanks a ton. I already threw everything and staying clean for atleast next 2-3 months. I will ping you, your experience should definitely help.
My pleasure. First step is acknowledging you're an addict. Second step according to me is substituting a healthier addiction. You might find yourself with a ton of free time now (it's incredible how much of a time sink smoking weed can be). It's incredibly important to do something that's meaningful but not stressful (ex: choose lifting weights over interview prep if that's an option available to you). I can give you tons of other ideas that will help you realize that chasing a high is 100% not worth the toll it takes on both your body and mind.

Act like an adult, if you’re addicted use your will power to quit
Dude this isn’t mental addiction pls read the post. I conquered cigarette addiction, this is nothing. Its about physical addiction and tips regarding it. Half knowledge answers are not encouraged.
I agree with OP. Even cigarette addiction was hard. Dear OP - break the cycle and meet an addiction counselor if talking about his to your friends/near and dear is hard. Breaking an addiction is really worth it. Also try meditation every day. Also you MUST have a plan on what to do when the wave of urges come. That is key. Your devil in the mind will keep knocking at your door to take the next joint. (In addition to the physical withdrawals). Take a break from work and go for a tranquil vacation. Anything and everything is worth doing to stop the bane of addiction. I’ve been there with smoking addiction and know what you are going through. All the best!
