My team hired a new remote Linux engineer recently. This guy did pretty well during the interviews. But when onboarding him, he is lacking even the basics like how ssh to a box and not being proactive. This is super weird. Happened multiple hires. Seems like a different person. Has anyone experienced this before. Either he is doing another job or he is a different person TC: 🥜 #it #engineer #interview #tech #remotework #hr #linux
Or someone else did the interview for them. Does your interview process include a practical hands on challenge? I worked at another company that did and it quickly filtered who was comfortable on the command line.
No time. Have to solve np-hard interview questions first
Yes was on an online editor to ask Linux questions and write script type of questions
Give him another chance. Maybe chatGPT will be online next time
Is this a contract position or Full time ?
Fulltime
Ok! Might have cheated in the interview . Observe him closely, he’ll be completing the tasks but slowly because, he hires someone from offshore to offload his work and tasks and then comes back to you with questions, he can’t respond instantaneously in meetings but things change over the time.
Someone else interviewed and is pimping out junior people for a cut of their paycheck. I bet they’re in India. This is what your company gets for being cheap.
New hires only do leetcode. You have to teach the rest 🤡
Remote interviews are a huge pain. 1/2 the candidates have someone (or google) open behind the camera, 1/4 the candidates are dumb enough to give away easy signs. The most brazen attempt had someone else take the interview for them. Like. You know the phrase “white people think all X people look alike” is a dumb joke right? Fastest firing I’ve ever seen. “Who is this person in our meeting, and why are they signed in with X’s name?”
I'm not white
Didn’t mean to imply anything about your situation. Cheaters are brazen when the reward is +10k/month. And they’ll use every tool available to get even just a few months pay for an interview & a few standups. They just apply to as many positions as possible and skate for as long as they can. 2-3x 10k is a lot of money in a short period.
Tell him to google how to ssh
must be outsourced dummy from those telugu consultancies
How much is his TC?
Over >$100k. Mid size company in major city
not so useful to be able to reverse a linkedlist right?
Instead they should ask "ssh to the box and reverse a linked list there. For principal role - do it in Vim"
literally don’t know how companies hire based on a dumb assessment
