Hi Why are no-tippers/ low-tippers frowned upon in US? Isnāt it the job of employer to pay their employees well? If I eat at an expensive restaurant as opposed to McD/ Chipotle, i am paying the premium for better food, better service by paying for expensive food. The servers/ waiters at these restaurants should be paid well by their employer, not tipped heavily by me. Is this wrong reasoning? Same goes for Uber eats, Doordash, Instacart, Dominoās pizza. Arenāt these companies billion dollar enterprises. Why canāt they pay well to their delivery guys.
You must pay for the service in the US. Restaurants keep costs lower with the expectation that people tip to keep workers at good wages. Itās not the best, but itās either this or we pay 20% more for food.
āRestaurants keep costs lowerā. You make a statement like itās a fact?
Can I opt out of service and get the food from the kitchen myself to save a few bucks?
Welcome to USA šŗšø
Yeah, its a weird thing, but better get used to it š
Thank you for your novel insights into our culture. Now pay up.
You know tipping is optional (although frowned upon, if the Customer doesnāt tip). You canāt ask someone to āpay upā lol
If you visit or move to other countries, you are expected to adhere to the culture and not be an asshole. Tipping is a very clear guideline. Donāt be an asshole. Itās very simple.
Because, like it or not, minimum wages are defined differently for tipped and not-tipped workers by labor department. Restaurant and certain service workers tend to seek those jobs and expect tip because they have honed themselves for servicing. While it is arguable whether food or service prices should include the living wage for the workers, it is not going to happen unless their competing peers inact the same policies. I see some restaurants mentioning that their prices do include tip portion, making lives easier for their workers. Do not be a dick by not tipping fairly when they serve your table of 6, unless otherwise mentioned.
Doesn't matter. Many states REQUIRE companies to pay at least minimum wage, if the tips the employee earned are less than it.
So, if minimum wage for servers was the same as everyone else, itās okay to not tip?
Tipping expectations keep rising too. Now receipts show 15 20 25% as precalculated checkboxes. Employers should just pay employees fair wages. Also USA has higher expectation of profits for shareholders.
Why tips are % of the order price? There isnāt much difference in effort required to serve 2 dishes compared to 1 dish. Tips should be a fix amount which customers pay per person. If we go with % of bill amount by that logic software engineers should be paid millions of dollars considering % of the impact they make.
Or a 10 dollar appetizer vs a 30 dollar entree.
Lol. That's American logic. Just tip if the service is good. If it's good, feel free to tip well. If it's bad, don't tip.
After socialists raised the minimum wage I stopped tipping
This is good, I think. Restaurants will be forced to pay employees more to keep them. Win-win!
Yes. But if the service if great Iāll tip 20-25 to say thank you

For context in most other parts of the world, the price you see is the price you pay, tax included, for any item or service.
Yeah, it's funny people have to calculate tax here.
Youāre able to do that on a country with one tax rate.
