L4 Google -> 45 interviews, 5 offers, AMA
SWE here. Had 2 tech screens followed by 3 onsites. All interviews (coding and system design)went good from my end , there was no behavioral round. There were 3 back to back interviews. Last interview ended at 2:06 pm (we ran 6 mins longer due to QnA). At 2:20 pm(14 mins after onsite), I get a generic email from recruiter mentioning that it is a reject and not a good fit for the team. Really feel like this was pre-decided and they did not want to call off interview earlier as it looks bad. I am just shocked beyond limits as I was expecting an offer. Can they really make a decision so quickly and plan it so well that I can get a feedback 14 minutes after interview. I think it requires days for gathering feedback, debriefing, making finaldecision, letting recruiter know and finally they drafting rejected/selected email. What do you all think? TC:185K
It can happen quickly if there’s a deadline to fill the role before a freeze.
It’s likely bs, they already had someone they wanted to hire (unless something went really wrong like they thought you were cheating or something like that would be enough to disqualify you instantly)
Can't read most of poll text. Regardless I'd do my best not to worry about it. Either way, they won't be employing you.
Ive had really good onsites and got offer the next day (pretty much verbal offer right after the last interview the day of). Also had really good phone rounds and recruiter got back to me in 2 hours. So i dont think it necessarily always needs days to decide. If the candidate is obviously good or obviously bad, then its a 5 min decision. But your case is strange because it sounds like it went well. So probably something fishy.
There’s so much bs that can happen behind the scenes that no one here can really give you an exact answer. The best plan of action is just to dust this off and put it behind you and grind to the next. Whilst simultaneously making sure your mental and physical health are in a good place.
I heard similar stories from others
Similar stories for NVidia hiring?
The only way it can be done in 15 minutes is that the key decision maker really dislike your application and just DQ you. If it needs a group discussion, it can’t be done in 15 minutes
Tanked the last interview .
How do you know?
yes the decision can be quick. HR has been very keen on a faster feedback since NV has been notorious for its slow response. If the first guy didnt like you HR has enough time to reject
Feedback is collected asynchronously and the earlier interviewer’s feedback could have been submitted and grounds enough to reject. It’s possible. Sorry though.
Thanks. Just fyi, all 3 rounds were done jn the span of 2 hours 45 mins. 1st round 45 mins, then a break of 30 mins, followed by 2 consecutive intervjews of 45 mins each with no breaks.
Still, many interviewers (myself included) submit feedback immediately after the interview
Mostly green card interview lol
was about to say this. bad luck op
Did not get this? Do you mean this position needed a GC OR is this how green card interviews are generally conducted?
