Started working for Wells Fargo through Revature (garbage contracting company) in Charlotte NC as a contractor but internally an App Systems Engineer 5. Started off making 45K in 2019. Only base no stocks or bonuses. Got my 15K contract raise in Dec 2020 so 60K a year. Was hired as an FTE in March of 2021 as an Engineering Analyst not SWE. Salary was 70k. No stocks or bonuses. Manager mislead me despite me being a rockstar employee in terms of work being completed compared to other fte/contractors just dragging work for years but promised me growth in the year. July comes around and I get only a 3/5 (meets expectations) despite going above and beyond my responsibilities and shitting on lifetime useless tech leads. Decided I needed to gtfo cause these Indian managers promise the world in exchange for 60-70 hr work weeks and then backtrack on promises. Grinded Leetcode for a couple months Got 10ish offers initially for local companies offering 🥜 however Ally offered the most 🥜 (90k base + 5% annual bonus + 10k sign on) Accepted offer in Sep with start date in Oct. Bank of America got back to me in Oct with an offer of 105K base, no stocks and undisclosed annual bonus (wtf?). Negotiated to 120K and started working for BOA and reneged Ally. First week of BOA, Microsoft got back to me with an offer. Lv 59 97k base 10k sign on 0-20% annual bonus And 70/4 for stocks Refused a Lv 59 while having 2+ yrs of exp Got back a new offer. Lv 60 107k base 20k sign on 0-20% annual bonus 100/4 stocks Ask for more since it didn’t mean my TC goals of 180k a year. Final offer Lv 60 112k base 30k sign on 0-20% annual bonus 130/4 stocks Left boa after 1.5 months and joined MSFT. Don’t compromise on TC, goals or growth. Was making 45k in nov 2020 and now 175k in nov 2021. #swe #microsoft
congrats! how hard were the leetcode questions from microsoft?
Easy-Medium lvl. It took me a while for the medium Lc but I think my interviewer took pity on me cause hes also from Wells Fargo.
😂
Teach me your ways 😭
MSFT remote or in Charlotte?
My org has 100% remote indefinitely
But it’s in Charlotte
Congrats! Can you share your LC prep strategy ?
Just understanding the problems and memorizes techniques based on keywords in the problems and what data structure or algorithm is the best case for it
Incredible work, great job!
Just curious so 175k Tc is only for first year right? Because you won't be getting sign on from second year?
Seems like he’s split up the signing bonus across four years. TC without the signing bonus is 167, assuming he gets the full 20% annual bonus
175k first year with expected 10% bonus. 165K second year. I’m not counting on the full 20% but would be nice. Msft promotes fast so I’m expecting for same/more tc with a promotion within the first two years.
congrats!! Hope to do the same in two years :D
Wow remind me to never hire from Charlotte! You’re a complete douche, you’ve now put a target on your back because you oversold yourself, and you’ll be squeezed out before you vest. Either that or you’ll burn out within 3 years
Pretty chill team and manager and new project with no immediate timelines. How did I oversell myself? LV60 with 2 Yoe is common. Amazon is paying 300k+ for L5s with a shitty wlb. This is a win in my book.
Bungalow why are you attacking OP? What about the post makes you feel negatively about Op
congrats! how many medium leetcode questions before u were confident enuf to interview?
Probably 30 but I spent more time understanding techniques and finding keywords in problems to know which ones to apply. I can identify how to solve lc hards. Coding is always the btch
Congrats! Great story about how it doesn’t matter where you start.
