I have been a Product Manager for 10 years. It doesn’t excite me anymore. I am tired of working 60 hours/week. However, I am not sure what other opportunities Are out there other than PM (considering thats all I know ! ) Has anyone switched their careers from PM ? If yes, what was the new aspiration? TC : $450k Update: I am now a people manager and mostly work on building strategy and vision for the team. Tinder is unique in a way that everyone executes on features (irrespective of the level). I have worked at both large scale and small scale companies and have never worked less than 60 hours / week!!!
Not all PMs work 60 hour weeks
Product management is vast. Have you considered trying a different role- Feature PM vs Platform vs Innovation vs Growth PM or switching between generalist vs specialist or perhaps people management?
Yeah growth PMs or high impact feature PMs work the most. Try switching teams. I honestly love being a PM and I work 40 hour weeks. Lots of saying no to stupid shit.
Product operations. If you are data minded it is the new thing in product teams
what do product ops teams do? I m genuinely curious and thinking of switching from program management role to product ops
I feel like most people get into product because they want to make things. Prod ops is basically the opposite. They create processes and figure out the logistics of things and how to make product orgs run smoothly. It sounds so, so boring to me.
Have you considered becoming a VC or launch/join start-up?
I think if he’s tired of long hours, startup isn’t the way to go
Try singing
Hahah ! i would fail miserably
DoeS tinder generally have That bad wlb?
I do not think it’s Tinder specific. I have worked 60hrs / w in my previous companies too.
Did you ever build a backdoor at Tinder?
