Have heard a lot of variability, is it group dependent?
Depends on group and company for sureee - more mature companies will probably be super cihll (think like legacy semis companies or something) while up and coming companies like Airbnb or soemthignw ould be busier
Interesting, I always thought the startups were supposed to support the great WLB and perks, while mature companies could end up grinding you at some point
Would say 10-12 hours on average per day. But all finance jobs tend to be relatively episodic with ebbs and flows of business
Wow 10-12 hours for corporate finance as well? IB is like 12-16 and you get paid 50-60% more haha. Is it worth the work life balance trade off?
I have friends that work in corporate finance that work about 50-60 hour weeks. The benefits are good and they seem to have a decent amount of vacation time as well. Really doesn’t sound too bad to me.
What’s the total comp in that situation though? If I’m taking a 50% pay cut I want a job that I enjoy, and I want to work only around 40 hrs a week
My friends that work in corporate finance are making around 70k but are entry level analysts. I’m not sure what bonuses look like and how that works but I know the base is around 70. I would imagine it could be different depending on what state you work in too. Hopefully this helps.
Agree with the 10-12 hour answer, but it is very dependent. I imagine the more generalist the role, the less intensive the hours will be
Depends on group and planning cycle. Off cycle can be 3-5 hours a day, this is usually Feb, end of April and early May assuming an annual calendar. Everything ramps up for quarter close but is typically 14hr days for 2-3 weeks including weekends, again dependent on group. Aug-Jan is typical long range planning/budget and is normal to see 10-12hr days. I think 10 avg daily is a good assumption.
10 avg working hours daily
Is that group dependent at google? What was your background (IB / Consulting), and any guidance on total comp? Curious if there is good internal progression as well career wise
