What are the cons to remote work? ππ»
The pro's kind are pretty well known, but what's stopping you from taking a remote role?
Less TC usually.
Reduced visibility. Slower pace of promotion.
First in line for the chopping block.
Remote is amazing. Once you figure out how to make it work, you wouldn't want to go back.
Don't have a home office
Working from home once or twice a week is very ideal. It's the perfect middle ground and I tend to be the most productive this way.
Cons: lunch and dinner feels the same since you are in the same house. Weekday and weekend feels the same. Work hours and non work hours start to blur and feels the same. You can be inside your own bedroom and never step out to see the sun for 1 week. I used to do at least 10,000 steps a day when working in office. Now my iPhone says I do less then 1,000 at home. So unless I force myself to the gym or go walking, my body is pretty unhealthy.
Before you learn about an opportunity it gets taken because someone told someone about it and not you. Not everything can be slacked, emailed.
What if whole team is remote
No human contact. Itβs nice for awhile but when you realize that you never grab lunch with anyone but yourself and happy hour was three years ago you start to feel isolated. Harder to get promotions; out of sight out of mind. When you lose motivation good luck finding it again. Easy to find yourself getting distracted by every little thing.
