Google, FB, LinkedIn, etc are all in NYC. Also Two Sigma, Jane Street, etc.
Dropbox has an engineering and sales office there.
How big is the NYC engineering team? Are they hiring?
It’s really a question of priorities. If you’re looking to start a company and need to raise funding or hit the startup lottery and are willing to take the lifestyle hit, the Bay Area is still the top choice. If you’re simply targeting growing to a career level that commands mid-high six figure comp, you can easily grow to that in NYC, more if you’re willing to work in finance / can do quant work. PS. Lyft has an NYC presence too...
Two Sigma, Jet, Mongo, Flatiron Health, Appnexus - there is tons of tech here. Did you even google this?
Squarespace which is headquartered in NYC... there are engineers in Portland and Dublin as well, but only SRE
NYC is amazing and there are plenty of tech companies, big (Google), midsize (DigitalOcean) and boutique (Jane Street).
