I am on h1b and recently got married. My wife will be coming on h4 dependent visa as soon as she gets it. I will apply EAD for her as my I 140 is approved. Assuming she doesn't gets Ead due to trump administration policies. What are the different possibilities of her to be involved? I don't want her to sit idle all day and go into depression. I asked her if she would like to start business in india and manage it from US, I would invest whatever amount is required; but she isn't that enthusiastic about it. What do you think are her options to do something for betterment of herself or society or family ?
Education is always an option and she can get an opt and her own H1 after that.
Yeah education is definitely better in long term but we are planning to stay in US for only 2 more years and than move back to india.
I have heard so many people say this overs the years and no one goes back. :) just saying!
If making money isn't a problem I'd say volunteer - AIF, HAF etc
I know she would love to volunteer as well but she consider that as a part time gig only. We spoke about it but she doesn't seems that enthusiastic.
+1 to volunteering. An excellent way to get integrated to the life/culture here.
Depending on the situation, volunteering is also illegal.
You. Duh
Lol
Unless she has better choices
Change to F1 , study masters and get OPT. This was the path before h4 ead came along
My wife was in a similar situation. She got an academic H1b (exempt of lottery) for a post doc position. So if your wife is interested in academics that is a path forward
H4 ead verdict is postponed till June. I would say go ahead and apply asap. Even if the rule goes away, most likely for existing ead holders, they will let it expire rather than revoking immediately.
On a different note Manik baasha Roku was featured on last week tonight
Yes apply EAD. It should get approved.
How about freelancer work?
Starting a business in India while being on H4 visa is illegal.
Don't think that's true. You are not taking job of any American in that case. But I am not a lawyer.
I don't think that's true. As long as she is not on US payroll , She is okay. If legality comes that she cannot be on india payroll either, she will just not take pay but still can manage.
