Curious what other companies offer sign on bonus for new hires on top of base salary & equity? And for how long? If it depends based on departments, I’m in (product) marketing & based out of nyc. For L63, HWE MSFT pays from 20-50k sign in bonus. They start low at 20k. Stocks is 50-150k vesting in 4 years

It all depends on your negotiation skills and the number of offers you’ve got in your pocket.
I think people are missing the crux of the question. The incentive companies have to offer sign on bonus is the lock-in period. Most if not all use that money in a way where they are stuck for 2 years. In short, increase retention.
