1. Wondering what鈥檚 the percentage of people that actually get in PE/Hedge fund from top 5 MBA schools. I have seen post here about someone from top 2 mba program but failed to get in any of the funds... 2. What kind of experience/knowledge will help to get in a Hedge fund? 3. What do the MBAs do in a hedge fund usually ? 4. Is it true that if someone missed the campus hire then he/she will never be able to get in? Based in NYC. Thinking about getting an MBA
Anyone who did MBA to answer my question?
Your company funding your mba?
Meetings: Either attend one or make one
With the right caliber ofMBA you can change one or all of industry, geography or role.
Or you can join a search fund and get funded to find and buy a business, join PE, VC, hedge funds like you said. Or join PE as a CEO, CFO, COO for portfolio companies, brand manager, program manager, GSM, product manager etc. if you have a technical background it opens up even more spaces
Hey Apple. Did you get a MBA? Form the stat I saw. Only like 6-7% of the MBA people get in PE/VC. I already have a MSCS and have been working in quant finance field but would like to get some info on how to get in PE/VC for other roles if I have a MBA. Do you think a MSCS will help to get in VC ? Or is that unrelated ? I assume some VC invested in tech will be interested in people鈥檚 background like that ? What you think
You also just need to be networking like hell. There are very few seats and PE is a small world.
Generally they are still very tough positions to get, even going to a Top 5 MBA school. Compared to Tech, Hedge funds are very scalable businesses -- you can manage $1bn or $10bn with the same headcount -- so a typical hedge fund may only hire a handful of people a year. Typical MBA hires are for fundamental research positions and they look for people with prior investing experience and are ready with stock ideas during the interview process. I would say PE jobs are even more difficult given that they almost always select folks with prior PE experience from mostly HBS and Stanford. You can find career reports for all the top MBA programs. https://www.hbs.edu/recruiting/employment-data/Pages/default.aspx https://statistics.mbacareers.wharton.upenn.edu/
Ah I see. Thanks for the info. This is very helpful!
Lose their money to apes
Apes? Lol what鈥檚 that
Wallstreetbets term
What do these hedge fund jobs pay? 200k +?
Much more than that. For a quant or a finance role
What are some numbers? 500k?
Hbs , Wharton, booth are pe vc feeder. But u have to white elite undergrad background. As earlier mentioned, try coo,ceo in their portfolio ,it might help u to get into pe shop in long run. Watch : poets and quants with sandy YouTube . He gave some good perspective for PE prospective candidates. u may try small VC , it won't pay 500k but who knows u might get 1,2 unicorn Portfolio in 5/7 years stint. Disclaimer: Kellogg and oxford candidate, decided Not to waste 200k of tuition and 2 years of income stream Will join in executive one next year.
Ok I guess if I don鈥檛 have an elite undergrad background, a top Mba won鈥檛 help to change much? I do have work experience at BBs
Top mba will help. Join pe vc club in school better to get a internship in any small or mid range shop And u already know its all about networking
I have an MBA from a top school. Banking, consulting, tech are common exits. The ppl I saw go to HF/PE already had an in
