Someone I went to university with is a senior technology consultant at ey and on instagram I see him posing in front of private jets, private yachts, exotic cars, attractive women and seeming to be living a rockstar party lifestyle. He doesn’t code and has a “pseudo” tech degree called business analytics information technology. What do technology consultants do on a day to day basis? Any future in that industry? TC: 130k
They consult technology
Powerpoints?
Sounds like he’s really photogenic
So, he is a BA consultant. They typically work up functional requirements, make spreadsheets, put together presentations, for some major corporate client of EY. They work long hours, make maybe 100K, but have to travel each week so rack up some frequent flyer miles. As far as that fancy stuff behind him, just showing off. (I was in consulting for over 20yrs)
This is spot on
The needful
Consulting is a huge industry and every consultant's experience is different. I am a consultant in data analytics/data science field (For past 5 years) and here is my experience: 1. My work is not limited to PPT. 2a. I have built basic models for the client. (E.g, credit risk model, customer segmentation mode).l Sometimes it's designing databases, creating tables and sometimes it's making dashboard with Tableau/Power BI. - The nature of work depends on the org of the client we have a contract with 2b. Of course, we should make PPTs and documents to explain our client work. 3. When on bench, we do internal work that will be sold to a potential client. 4. Client deadlines are non-negotiable and we should work long hours to meet them. But, when on bench, it's chill. 5. I get paid less (105k). But, other perks are alright and relatively, there is a better job security.
