Seriously, since the launch of facebook, the company has released 0 innovations (even fb wasn’t an innovation). Google, Apple and Amazon has released tons of stuff since their inception, but fb has done nothing. So what do you guys build all day? Are you working on new products that actually matter, or are you just collecting $$$?
I do not doubt there is a lot of work in refining and scaling the product, also the FB facade is not how the money are made. I have a diff question: What is the tech stack on the server-side? It used to be PHP - still the case?
Yes, but they added a lot of features to the language. It's called Hack now
Are you a college student?
You are clearly not destined for greatness if you can only analyze the biggest app in the world in such narrow “middle america grandmother simplicity” terms. If you cannot see the opportunity and innovation, unless it is a splashy Tesla or something else blatantly smack across the face obvious, I am not sure Tech is for you
Tons of major OSS projects such as Rocksdb, Presto, Hive and PyTorch that are widely used across the industry and also at Amazon. Also, open compute platform. Haven’t heard of a single major OSS project come out of Amazon. All Amazon does is steal OSS software, deploy it as a service and never contribute back.
So what? Open source projects is just a hobby for any serious company.
troll spotted
clearly you don't look at the things built around fb to support its scale and monetization... good for you
What innovation has FB done since it’s inception? I don’t get it: people keep saying “you aren’t paying attention”, yet aren’t naming a single innovative product.
what innovation do you think amazon did? define innovation? I'm tired of this kind of questions...
Wow OP you are really thick headed. Putting aside the debatable psychological and political trauma that Facebook has created on society while unregulated, it has created tons of innovation in advertisement on par with Amazon's innovations.
Nothing. I just sit there and collect a bigger paycheck than you.
Seems like it.
Hmm... React Thrift HHVM RocksDB Presto I’m sure there’s many more internal innovations. Or do you mean innovation in a different sense, like product feature innovation?
And now OP is super quiet
Who said you have to be innovative to make money? If that was true, there would be only one restaurant in a city. You build something to make money, not to innovate. Get that in your head first.
I’m not saying that at all, as long as people accept that FB is not at all innovative.
You never heard of this little thing called React?
The thing that Facebook itself is waning off of and don’t use with new projects? Yes. It was good for some web devs for a few years, but that’s it.
Wait, it’s react native they’re waning off of. Nevermind
