https://www.reuters.com/markets/deals/eu-antitrust-regulators-decide-googles-maths-app-buy-by-march-28-2023-02-22/ I find it unbelievable that a small Eastern European company is building something Google cannot.
Not saying this is good, but just because they are buying them doesn’t mean they are doing something they can’t. There are lots of other reasons to buy a company. For example, to reduce competition in a space, to acquire the customer base, to acquire key talent, to accelerate their own efforts, etc.
If its to reduce competition, that violates anti-trust, wouldnt it?
It doesn’t seem like agencies are that interested in pursuing antitrust violations so I don’t think they would care that much. Just look at all the consolidation in tech, telecommunications, media, etc. over the last decade.
And people get pissed off when Satya talks about ChatGPT. That's what big tech firms do. Innovation within these companies in ZERO because of bureaucracy.
I find it very much believable. Google is not agile. It’s a slow behemoth now.
Its crazy that google is just allowed to buy things that directly threaten their business model then fire everyone and abandon the project
