Let’s say you are not selected for H1B after trying the H1B lottery multiple times. Will Qualcomm fire you? Will they transfer you to one of their offices outside the US? If so, will they give you a choice of Canada, Europe or your home country?
If you are from India , they will transfer you to India office. I am not sure about what happens to other nationalities. The offices in Europe and Canada are very small.
Thanks for the info. My coworker is Indian but he has got an approved Canadian PR. So he prefers to get transferred over to the Canadian office. And he’s got one last chance for the H1B draw. I am Canadian and I want to be transferred to their Canadian office for family reasons, but they’re very hesitant about it. So after seeing what has happened to me, my friend has now got worried and is looking for a company that doesn’t mind transferring him to Canada.
Ghar vapsi
English please! As a matter of fact, Queen’s English please!
Ghar Wapsi (Hindi, meaning "Back to Home")
Why cant your friend ask Fragomen directly ? In matters of visa , i woukd trust Fragomen than any random person on Blind.
Fragomen represents the employer, not the employee. I’ve dealt with them too even though I’m Canadian. I do not trust Fragomen at all. Plus this is not really a US immigration question. It is a question of whether Qualcomm transfers you to their Canadian or Indian office or not. Now how can a US immigration lawyer answer that? It is more of a question for the HR and the manager. Is the answer to this question different from one org to another? Basically what are other Qualcomm’s employees experience in this regard? That’s what he and I are trying to find out.
There is no internal documentation on what Qualcomm does when youre unable to get a visa. Hence it doesnt matter what people say here since there is not set policy. Are you trying yo gather anecdotal evidences ? If yes , then Qualcomm does move you to one of ther Canadian Offices if you already have a team presence there. When i didnt get the visa, i was only given option to move back to India. Luckily i got visa in the last attempt.
They’ll give you the option to move to India. And bring you back to the US the next time your H1B is approved. Know a couple of instances where this happened after 3rd attempt wasn’t successful. This may vary by team though.
Thanks for sharing the info. Any idea what they do with non Indians? My friend is Indian but he has just got his Canadian PR and preferably wants to move to Canada. He’s hoping they’ll let him transfer to the Canadian office.
Really depends on his tech lead/managers and how accommodative they are of this request. What will work for or against him will be his team’s presence in the Canadian office, which seems pretty unlikely.
How about O1 visa for PhDs ?
Hi OP, Did your friend get his H1B in last shot? If not then how did Qualcomm help him?

They butcher you for meat. TC/YOE or GTFO.
Looks like they did it to you. TC is irrelevant for this post. I don’t see TC in other work visa posts here. Plus I’m asking this for a friend who works there and his TC is 🥜 because he’s a new grad.
I haven't yet been butchered for meat, but I expect it'll happen at some point.
