All that I see is they attend meetings and chase engineers and data scientists to implements and make presentations. They are all MBAs but do not have the attitude of an MBA. I’m yet to see a PM make a half decent contribution to a product.... and yet in companies like Walmart, they “own” the product and show up suddenly to lift trophies and take credit and send boring congratulatory emails!!
Think of engineers as sheep and PM as sheep hearder
They probably don't do stuff like this 🙂 To just code away is one thing but to think of the bigger picture and piece a puzzle together is what a PM does. People who just code and one particular task will not appreciate the role of big picture thinkers. Btw I am an engineer as well but feel the big picture thinking and puzzle solving is were the true value add is. Anyone can code!
Well, that’s what architects and senior engineers and data scientists are supposed to do or traditionally have done ... piece a puzzle together and build systems aka products. Until a decade or so ago, there were no product managers... there were business analysts ... and seniors folks in IT would piece the puzzles and build and implements systems, which are now being called products. I am not an engineer :)

Sounds like a walmart problem
10 years in the tech industry and I hardly know 1-2 product managers who are good. Most of them have superficial confidence and knowledge and it's laughable to talk to them in the meetings.
Unfortunately, this is true for many companies.
Any examples of companies where architects and senior technology / data science folks own and build the ‘products’? Ie., both the sheep and the sheep headers are technology people and not recent MBAs with little to no experience of actually building?
A lot of PMs start as data sci etc. I think you are conflating MBA with PM, though admittedly there is a lot of overlap
