I have a FB interview coming up, and I would like to hear ideas and thoughts on what exactly do you expect on System Design interviews? A little bit of background about me, I have more than 6 years of experience working on an Infra team (we handle queries in the magnitude of a few thousand QPS, definitely not the scale FB does). I already read Educative.io System design (targeted for early SDE-2 audience), and partially covered DDIA (from Kleppmann). What would you like to see as a template for System Design Interviews? * My expectation is that I'd interact with the interviewer to undertand the requirements. * I would probably bring up a few things about constraints (aka NFR) and the rest I would expect from the interviewer. * Do you care about BOE calculations at all? (if it's not worth it, I can save ~5 minutes here). * Do you care about putting together an MVP model with few users (a single node system)? (or want me to jump right into scaling the system as we are designing it). * Do you expect me to model DB before high-level design or after? * My speciality is in messaging (Kafka, RabbitMQ) and high scale stream processing, should I steer my conversations over to this space to feel comfortable in the domain? * I don't have much experience working with Redis or NoSQL DB or CDN, although I kinda understand where they are used. ( Should I mention that to the interviewer, just so he knows what I am familiar with). * Do you really care for me to mention about Load Balancers (Round Robin stuff), and LRU cache. These are something any new engineer would know, should I even spend time talking about it? System design interviews are very vague and that's what scares me a bit. I am just wondering if you let interviewers drive the conversation or you lead the interviews (to your familiar areas) and let them do the follow-ups. #systemdesign #fb #design #onsite #educative #ddia #facebook #google #microsoft #amazon #uber #lyft #faang
Op, odd question, I am in Application/Backend engineering space. I am wondering, how much time it will take me to gain knowledge on Infrastructure, I want to target FB or Dropbox core Infra / System teams.
Not sure either, that was the premise of the question. Hoping for FB Infra folks to chime in on what it takes to be on their teams, and what are they looking for?
I wish there was a way to upvote questions on blind
Amazing question. I wish there was someone from FB who can reply?
Do you guys use Kafka at cerner?
Yes
For what all purposes, do you use Kafka in Cerner? Can you elaborate generally, without talking about internal stuff?
