This post isn’t about Lyft vs Uber. Lyft has been kicking our asses over the last 2 years. The article below though is a reminder that when governments interfere with pricing set by a competitive marketplace, there are negative consequences. Drivers demanded higher pay, now they are being locked out of the app because Lyft can’t support those high prices + penalties from the government. I wouldn’t be surprised if Uber followed soon. I’m also not saying that drivers shouldn’t be paid fairly. They absolutely should. Unfortunately the rideshare market, with its disastrous margins, can’t always support all drivers who want to drive. taxes raise the cost of doing business and are a tool for manipulating the direction of an industry. im not sure what you think is profound about this observation. ny did it because uber and lyft are bypassing regulations with the express intent of drivingthe cost of labor down to 0.
I mean, NY did it because it has the most well funded and entrenched taxi industry in this country

Sure, I’m fine with the collapse of car-hailing. Maybe it won’t undercut public transportation
public trans is shit. Prefer to drive my own car.
That sounds like you don’t ride-share anyway then, so you aren’t part of that available market.

Try to get around employment law by calling your employees contractors and this is what happens.
They clearly are not employed.
It’s funny, if we had a healthcare system not tied to an individual’s job, independent contractor vs employee becomes much more about what works best for the individual. The only reason this is even argued about is the order of magnitude difference in what you get as an employee vs a contractor.
