^ Early career designer here. Interested to know what’s interesting or difficult about each of the UX in fields such as fintech, healthcare, cloud tech, etc. What industry do you design for and would you recommend it? TC: $36/hr (intern)
Physics simulation - 3D, stress, strain etc. Very niche. Hard to jump cause it is very domain specific but very interesting work because its not consumer oriented but more enterprise focused. You are not peddling junk for people to buy which seems to be the rage. Very complex workflows that need a lot of divergent thinking. Pay reflects state of industry - slow moving 🐍
Automotive, very engaging and rewarding work if you love cars. I’m internal so lots of opportunities to excel and show impact depending on the team. Leadership is great so that helps as well. Cons are slow process (at GM), terrible peanut tier TC
This is really great to know! Is the peanut TC a trend across this field in particular or just GM to your knowledge? I have an opportunity with Nissan that I’m considering.
They’re all peanuts, not just GM. Tesla may be an outlier I’m not sure what they pay for design.
Developer tools, and I love it. The designers here are all pretty similar, people who can code and enjoy making experiences for developers.
I'm in edutech and find the work and products I design on incredibly rewarding and fulfilling. We make a measurable difference with our product and I am happy as can be!
In fintech the difficulty is in the financial nature of the products and regulatory constraints. I’ll recommend it if you’re a designer that likes navigating incredibly complex issues and like software that is more technical than visual. Design is more strategic, measured and quantified here compared to other industries.
