What is a average TC 7yoe sr software engg. ?
I am planni g to move to bay area, specifically Redwood city,ca. I am moving from east coast. Here the TC is around 140k for sr. Software engg. For which we can live comfortable as the house rent is around 1300- 2000$ depending on bedrooms and place. I would be moving with my wife no kids. If moving to bay area, what should be my considerations and what is generally considered as good TC for 7 yoe and Sr. Software engg. I work into distributed systems and cloud computing. Any inputs would be helpful.
Depends on level. Anywhere between 300-500k for FANG companies. 250 is decent otherwise. Rent is expensive. 2500-3000k for 1b apartment. Not sure about Redwood city. Look up the rent online. Account for state tax and in general increase in col. You can use online calculators to compute this.
Which company? May not be low balling
You can accept and reject later if you don't have any other option. But its usually better to defer decision after your interviews. Microsoft should pay better than GS. Also better in terms of future growth.
