My programming arsenal is getting weak. What should I learn if I were to look outside Microsoft if I have 3 weeks of free time. I'm not looking at C#, Java, Python
English. Not joking.
Lol.
Can’t go wrong with Java
It's not too different from C#
Well federal government has already recommended to dump C/C++ to prevent buffer overloading and other memory related attacks, so those are out of list. Rust and python.
Lol. Those who recommended these seems like never programmed in their life . Address sanitizer is already built in to to the gcc
Fed is generally behind the curve. That doesn't reflect the industry trend.
Amazed that Python doesn't make the list. It's huge for ML engineering and data engineering among other things.
I'm decently comfortable with Python. I didn't want to spend 3 more weeks going deep in a language that I can't put the depth to use. Rather I'd learn something new for breadth.
Java is a safe choice
Too similar to C# and perhaps I won't learn much that is "new"
Learn another discipline, not another language. Something like devops if u’re not strong in it, or ML/NLP or security. Or if u’re already fluent in all, learn something that will help no matter what type of role u take such as psychology. Learning yet another language will give u very few marginal benefits and might even be a waste if time IMO
That's a good point indeed. This is what blind is great for. Thank you!
SQL
!
Learn C . Kids these days don’t know anything about basic stuff, just using inbuilt libraries and slowing the program.
Started with C, but it's C# the last 14 years. I don't want to go back to C. I have done a fair bit of systems programming with C++, but long ago to remember
