What is happening to Qualcomm?

"I used to hold Qualcomm in high regard, as it seemed to be the only company in the wireless communication domain that recruited intelligent individuals and conducted outstanding research which can be comparable to Asian giants like Huawei, ZTE, Samsung etc. However, over the past year, I've noticed that their wireless job advertisements have dwindled significantly. Instead, they are focusing more on advertising GPU research and AI/ML research. Even their contributions to 3GPP have no innovative concepts, which they used to bring in the past. Does this suggest that wireless research at Qualcomm is on the decline or dead ?" TC: 350K, Austin #QUALCOMM #wireless

Top heavy structure, suckups get promoted and intelligent folks switch.

Qualcomm jxLL64 Sep 8, 2023

This😇

Cisco khjjmmw807 Sep 7, 2023

They’re trying to diversify because 20% of their business was solely Apple wireless licensing

Qualcomm yello_o Sep 8, 2023

CPU is still good

Qualcomm jxLL64 Sep 8, 2023

Nobody carez?

Qualcomm goldenrati Sep 11, 2023

Pretty much every company in this space has a good CPU. It does not stand out enough

Qualcomm fSLW71 Sep 8, 2023

Wireless technology can’t generate much revenue growth anymore. 4g was good enough for 95% of people.

Intel ELThere Sep 8, 2023

This . All telcos struggling to generate dollars from 5G investments

Correct. Telcos dont have a use case to generate money from 5G, people are happy with 4G and optical fiber

Yeah, we are going belly up with Indian leadership (CEO, CTO are all Indians) …. just like Microsoft, Google, Adobe 😂. Fart bro is 💯 correct

Qualcomm Hasselblad Sep 8, 2023

Hard to say that when we have MSFT google run by indians... I'm not an Indian though

Qualcomm AmonKiMaKi Sep 8, 2023

Op. Qualcomm is dead. Stock going to go to 80 dollars in next few weeks. If you hold anything sell and move on. This company is finished.

As a bystander, having done a couple deep dives into both Qualcomm and Chinese cellular chipsets / hardware / software, I'd say Qualcomm still has a good 7 - 10 year advantage. And AFAIK, their silicon is still unmatched. Some of the Chinese hardware / software stacks are just atrociously bad - it's a miracle they even work at all. Although the others are improving, so it's not the sort of lead that Qualcomm couldn't squander if they don't pay attention.

Ericsson anothermov OP Sep 10, 2023

Thanks, but why their wireless research is dead?

Cruise QAdw20 Sep 12, 2023

Chinese technology moves 3-4 times as fast as American tech because they can effectively synergize instead of having 8 firms build the same competing technology and 2-3 potentially make it successful with 1 clear winner.

Nokia magnetima Oct 9, 2023

Personally i think Qualcomm is the new Intel.
