We are a developed nation, and a global superpower. It is a shame that businesses in major cities are having to close down due to shoplifting. Even China won't tolerate these acts of mischief. there are places way worse than those cities on pay/COL ratio, yet I haven't seen ppl shitting/doing drug on the streets. It's the American who have been living too comfortable because the US's power older generation got for them
Laws are already present and effective. What you need for people is good wages, affordable healthcare and education.

This isnt everywhere in the US. And in some countries, it is way worse. The last country I went on vacation to, 80% of the stores has a sign that mentioned that cameras are operational and a wall of people that are suspects of shoplifting
They don't *have* to close down .. They're still making a profit. They choose to close down. And yeah, they shouldn't have to deal with shoplifting but that's largely subsistence crime by people who were left with very few options so maybe cities could come up with a better solution than locking everyone up which is basically an expensive way to provide shelter and food with generally bad outcomes
American life won't improve as long as Healthcare and Housing is seen as hustle culture.
