Is there anyone here with a technical security role at US Walmart who could tell me what it is like day to day? How does the comp and work life balance compare to security roles at FAANG? How hard would it be to transfer to the security team internally from a system engineer role? I am particularly interested in their system engineer security and software engineer security roles which are currently posted on their careers page. Would appreciate any insight from people who work there. #cybersecurity
Yes, you get to secure the discount brochures from leaking.
Depending on the team, it can be great... Or it can be terrible. Some management are ready and looking for new ways to work and deliver, others (typical for WMT) are stuck in their ways and make everything difficult. Overall, if you can use soft skills to your advantage you can drive change and deliver meaningful work. But it's hard work, and you need to network to establish wider org support
Did you work there or do you just know people who do? Sounds like a mixed bag. My understanding is you can only switch teams every 12 months and that is if your manager approves.
I have previously worked there. Like all places, it has its challenges... Just the scale is different in WMT. I'm not sure any company will let you switch teams in the first year to be fair. Manager approval is not mandatory, but is probably politically necessary
I had a manager reach out to me directly via LinkedIn. They said that they were 100% remote “until later in the year” and then I was expected to relocated to Arkansas. The latter was a dealbreaker. That’s as far as our conversation went.
Yeah I felt the same way at first. I found out you can actually live in Fayetteville, which is a college town and only 30 minutes away from walmart HQ. The cost of living there is low as well. Unless you have a family or something I don’t think it is that bad.
Is it that bad? I did apply at those companies FYI.
I also hear a lot of good things about walmart tech. Not sure what you are getting at to be honest.
