Edit: WFH For those working at Zillow as a software engineer (lower/entry levels), what's it like? I feel like it'd be an interesting place to work at and I'm thinking about applying later on as a fullstack software engineer position. I don't know, something about Zillow interests me and I feel like it'd be a fun place to work at. Maybe because I use the website I think it'd be fun to work at the same place, haha. What's the culture like? Heavy meetings? Are cameras always on? Workload and projects you're working on (do you find it interesting or is it more amount maintaining legacy code)? Appreciate any insight! :) #Zillow #zillowcareers #zillowgroup
It totally depends on the team and org - in my team, juniors have enough help from more experienced engineers. Yes, camera is always on and about 2 hours of meetings per day. Tech stack is interesting - python, dynamodb etc. cameras are always on. (Of course sometimes you can turn them off - I turn them off if I’m eating for instance ) Workload is not terrible. Around 40-45 hours per week including meetings. There’s always something going on - so not for slackers, but it’s not something which will burn you out in an year either.
Interesting! Frontend wise, still React? I looked at some of the company’s repos such as the react-slider. Definitely seems like quite a bit going on reading the tech blog. Thank you for sharing your experience!
What... Seriously the camera must always be on? Have you ever been told to keep the camera on more often? Is this a company bluff? What software is Zillow using to enforce this?
Why would an office have lots of cameras? Is this a remote work thing? I don't think I'd mind having cameras always watching me at home but man I'd carry that shit into the bathroom and leave the mic on.
I guess I should edit to mention remote positions.
"Camera is always on _during_the_meetings_", I guess ? 😆 I can't imagine any company enforcing otherwise.
One benefit is, you could set Zestimate on your house to whatever value you want. No one could beat that
Fuck yeah, imagine how cool it would be to show people your house is worth $1337.

'Hindutva': The Radical Hindu Ideology That Seeks to 'Push Christianity Out of India’
Interesting point of emphasis re. camera being on or off. Would this be a 2nd gig?
Nope, just not comfortable with cameras on. I have anxiety from body dysmorphia. But good question!
