I'm a senior dev and I've only ever worked at Amazon from FAANG. My day to day life is 1. 14 day sprints 2. Pressure to innovate an problem solve but mostly good pressure that motivates 3. Threat of pip is real but overstated. It's only a problem if you know you're under performing 4. RTO is annoying but not too bad 5. Given a lot of freedom to pick and choose battles but I'm held accountable by delivery targets 6. Work does feel like a chore quite often 7. Teammates are alright but a little toxic Overall I like working here. What is life like in these other companies? Meta and Google have a reputation for a great workplace culture, do you like working there? What about apple? Tc: 420k (really š) Yoe: 10 Location: San Francisco
Similar at Apple except no 3 but 7 a lot more toxic

lol dm me your team
The most annoying thing when I was at Amazon was its endless meetings. I needed to attend 4 recurring OE for different teams, pre planing, sprint planing, MCM (forgot what it's called but the thing before service launch), design review that always can't finish in the originally scheduled time. Each of these meetings could easily blow up to 2 - 3 hours long and even overtime. Which I never saw once when I was at Meta. Not sure about other FAANG but Amazon meetings are absolutely ridiculous.
How do other companies avoid this? Have only worked at Amazon
Joining Meta in 3 weeks. Will let you know
Worked at Amazon and Meta before. Meta doesnāt have any formal sprint mandate. Teams generally run without one, esp if you are an infra team. Some teams within some product orgs do, however, generally limited to growth teams Pip is not overstated either. Maybe you donāt see it. Underperforming is relative - meta is very fair. Their performance is more straightforward because they reward risk takers. If you align your impaac with your skip and their skips all the way to vp, you are safe; meta is generally very bottom up so teams can create metrics to move numbers. But if your guess doesnāt align with exactly what your vp or director thinks, your impaac is as worthless as your importance to zuck. But this unalignment doesnāt happen very frequently at the IC level. The most likely outcome when this happens, is a sign that reorg would happen soonā¦. In the worst caseā¦ You can still get MA thoughā¦ Amazon, at least in AWS, is more top down, but thatās expected because is very customer need driver. Another big difference between amazon and meta, still true hearing from my coworkers from before, meta still has better perks and āinternal cultureā. Before covid there is no doubt meta/facebook has the best perks available
Meta has brought Amazonās PIP culture post pandemic
I second Meta here
Meta is the same!
Goog sounds about the same, pick your own sprint duration
My team at Google didnāt have sprints or meetings it was slow af
