You have to solicit for yourself at work. There are those who are working and those who are seen to be working and those in the latter group end up being rewarded accordingly. Humility about your accomplishments on the job will do you no good during performance reviews.

When you succeed in a project, you get titles, but when you fail, you learn and grow. Don’t be afraid to fail. Don’t follow shiny projects and promotions only. Take some risks and become a strong engineer.

Not in these exact words, but something to the effect of: "You can, with a little bit of learning, get a better-paying job than mine." This was a few years ago; my TC was ~80k and his was ~200k. I had a rather out-of-date image of the state of the job market for software engineers, so I thought his comp was way out of band for senior engineers. He was right, thankfully. I've been doing my best since then to pay it forward (and back).
