Hi all, Thanks to everyone for their help! So I have an offer with Amazon with the GES group (Global Engineering Services), and we are deciding which location is best. I am trying to figure out what is the best city from a career advancement p.o.v + a city I actually afford to live in. Below are my options: - San Jose: Nuff said. It's Silicon Valley. Weather, career opportunities are perfect, but can I afford to live there? - Seattle: Home of Amazon. Career advancement looks good. Rains a lot though, and I HATE rain. This offer is not with AWS, but I am network myself in easily I think. What about cost of living? - Austin: Silicon Hills. Lots of Tech. Awesome weather. I am coming from Canada, so I love heat. Cost of living seems decent. But it's not with AWS, but lots of tech companies. - Arlington, VA: The NEW Amazon HQ2. Seems like a boring city, and not a super tech city. However, cost of living looks good. - Remote/Virtual. I can live anywhere, but does working from home/virtual restrict my networking. ? Does WFH limit career opportunities. Obviously I can't network in the hallway.
San Jose - horrid for social life and a run down place in general Seattle - depressing weather Arlington - boring for a young person So Austin wins - go to Austin
Arlington is like a small city right next to a bigger city(DC). You could live in DC and work in Arlington
Bengaluru
I don't get why Arlington would be particularly boring? I think San Jose is the most boring of these options
The DMV is dominated by government, military and other govt consulting related work - hopefully Amazon will bring a more diverse tech scene to the area
Austin - “awesome weather” . Err no, it’s been 102f for 60 straight days. It’s not awesome

Do you think TikTok will leave the US or get sold
Seattle is not ideal and if you hate the rain avoid. Would take remote if pay remains the same and move to lower COL
