What is the best way for someone from non-tech background to become SDE?
Asking for a friend who is about to drop $12k on night classes bootcamp. He has background of 15 YOE in non-tech roles. His BA degree is in a creative field. Will company hire SDE with only a bootcamp under belt? If not what else does he need? Github? From what i have read he will need to know basic Leetcode problems ... Thanks

He’s been doing random stuff not really a career so much as various jobs and creative projects. He wants to chase the $$ so is thinking of reinventing himself as SDE. I am concerned but don’t know enough to give him good advice ?

I’ve seen people apply to jobs with graphic design certificates etc and are often turned away. One of the best ways is to set up your own project etc to show you can actually use the new skills
Don't spend so much. There are so many great learning resources online that are free. Software development takes lot of patience and practice. Companies will value a lot if show case your work. Create github projects. Consulting companies will hire anyone. It's a great way to build some experience.
A much better idea IMO is to take some real college classes. It will look much better on a resume, and probably teach him more as well. Then work on projects and grind LC.
15 yoe and just stepping into tech he will probably be entry level. Is his 15yoe TC going to be lower than entry level sde?? Create projects you can showcase on ur profile. Portfolio, some experience on a cloud provider. Boot camp can help but not sure about 12k.

Will a company hire him with only self taught skills? No credentials? I imagine he would have to have a strong github or other projects ?
Honestly better than spending 12g on a shit bootcamp. Teach yourself, have decent samples on github etc will definitely be better IMHO
