I am debating whether to start off my career in SDE or SA at AWS. Don’t mind the small initial pay cut for SAs as I definitely do love to travel. What does an average timeline look like after 5 years of being an SA? 10 years? Do people stay as an SA for life? #aws #solutions #cloud #sde #sa #solutionarchitect
Start off as an SDE. You need experience before telling customers how to build their own infra
I'm inclined to agree with this. SAs need broad knowledge of a bunch of things. Working as a SDE first introduced me to the nuances of databases, OSes, networking and the internet etc. This knowledge has given me a competitive advantage as a generalist SA.
I don't know how one can become a SA without proper knowledge or being a SDE...I was a SDE and later became SA and I apply my learnings almost everyday to my SA job.
