I had no idea he was on pip. Apparently he was l6 and did not deliver enough impact. I did see him work hard though, but I don't think he drove enough impactful projects successfully

Try to understand the distinction between a population-level statistic and individual outcome. I have seen competent engineers let go from Google due to politics. And it happens at FB too. The "I am technically brilliant and irreplaceable" ideal is a rosy view that is repeatedly crushed by reality.
