What is this "Incoming X at company Y" bullshit on LinkedIn?

Lot of profiles and posts with eg: "Incoming PM at Microsoft" "Incoming SWE at Google" What stupidity is this? You leetcoded and got a job. Can't you wait 6 months to change LinkedIn? Can't wait to graduate? Or complete a background check? WDYT?

I personally don’t do that but won’t begrudge anyone who does. Sometimes people get too excited and carried away by the company. But I know a friend who did it and this was the reason: He was trying to connect with other professionals in the area to find out some stuff about the company and the area and he thought doing that will urge people to respond to his questions and requests on LinkedIn as he believed the LinkedIn heading will give him some credibility. Just my 2cents.

New grads are adorable curious creatures. Full of wonder and excitement. Don't break their hearts and their spirits.

Yeah, wait for the job to do that.

LinkedIn is for networking. Nothing wrong with an update on your employment situation. Though I prefer to wait in case something doesn't work out

Within the context of uni it’s so that people stop asking you what you’re doing this summer

Google SonJnow OP May 18, 2019
