Curious as I'm thinking of applying for jobs starting next year. I'm a senior security engineer (secops) and been thinking of what I'd like to try next. Possibly shoot for a Staff Eng or Architect role. I like to work on design and architectural type problems. Who knows what I'll actually be able to find, but that's what I'm interested in at the moment. Part of me thinks I really should try to switch to appsec as that is where the money seems to be going, but it's not something I'm passionate about. Also i think I'd like to go to a smaller company. Not a fan of how big SAP is personally. Curious what path folks here are on, and what your goals/plans are.
I speak to a lot of recruiters and from everything I have been told, next year should be similar to this year...so lots of jobs and movements. Some things to think about: 1) There are so many jobs out there and it's so hard to hire nowadays because there are a lot of companies throwing around crazy money...here's my advice...apply for jobs you think you may not qualify for. A lot of teams are struggling to hire and will eventually need to take a risk on someone with lesser experience than they expected. If you can get hired for a role thats 2 levels higher...you just added 5 years of experience to your resume. 2. A lot of areas are in demand and playing well. For example, SecOps and IR used to pay the least but now IR engineers can be making 180k + bonus + equity. If you can code, you could make 200 or so. With that being said, whatever field youre interested in, I bet you can make killer money. 3. When you move to a smaller company, just remember their teams/processes/tools may not be as mature...so this could mean extra work or headache.
What do you think of a secops person applying to an appsec role? I have some background in swe and security automation but i don't see myself getting on-the-job appsec experience aside from self learning, online courses etc. I think I'd like the work and things have been moving in that direction, but I feel stuck in traditional security atm

Asians - what are your thoughts on asian female white male ?
I am in threat hunting. Also looking to move next year. But not exactly sure what I want to do next. I like hunt but open to other areas too
Threat hunting sounds interesting. Do you work for a security vendor / MSSP? Or is there a dedicated team in your company?
