Equity is getting rid of the fence...
How do you get rid of the fence? If in school, we don't give them homework and tests?
Getting rid of homework and testing would improve education. Kids can still be evaluated based on wholistic understanding and completion of tasks and processes... probably more important skills than memorization and bubble-filling.
Somebody is always going to have an edge over the others. I like smart people and I want them to succeed and show us the limits of human achievement. What I don’t like is when they use their advantage like a weapon against others. Using the analogy of the picture, have as many boxes as you want until you make it harder for others to get one because you hoarded them all. Then we kill you and redistribute your boxes to everyone else and start again.
Don't you want to see everyone succeed? The achievement can be different, but they can all be successful in a different way.
Siblings raised in the same household aren’t even guaranteed the same outcomes or the same success
Right, but do you think parents should focus more on the not so smart one, or split their time evenly for the 2?
The communist left the saw and stole all the boxes.
I personally feel that both are worthy and both exist for a reason. They are used in different scenarios. For equity, I think it is important when you cannot select the group, such as public school. you want all the children to success, therefore, you spend more time on the not so smart ones. But in gifted and talented program where you can test children, I tend to think that equality is more important. Just pick the smart ones, point is all it matters, ethnic group should not be take into consideration here. If we promote equity in this scenario and say every ethnic group has fix amount of spots according to population of the group, then some kids might need to score 99 to get in the program while other group only need to score 70. Then we have an imbalanced group again, and it is not solving any problem.
My kids go to a school where the school library is open during recess. Some kids take some recess time to check out books and others don't. You don't have to *do* anything other than give people freedom.
Have you ever been to 1st grade class? I have, not all student can catch up, and if you don't help them, they will never catch up and end up redoing 1st grade again. My sister is a 1st grade teacher and she had a student who is taking 1st grade for the 3rd time.
It’s so f***king hypocritical and stupid for someone earning 6 figure salaries in the tech industry to support equity instead of equality - why don’t the FAANG hire someone who had no exp or knowledge with coding and earning $7.25 as of today instead of you? Are you suggesting you are more “equity” than him/her? Why do we need do interviews anyway? Why not just draw lots to decide who gets hired? Why do you need study hard at school if your outcome will be the same as someone who doesn’t give a f**k about it and plays video games all the time? The list goes on and on... Sorry about the language, but as someone who came from a country used to be communist, just cannot stand these f***king woke idiots to ruin my country again... Some final suggestions for the “woke”: learn the history of Great Purge, Cultural Revolution and Cambodian Genocide before you talk about something you don’t have a f***king clue... if you think these won’t happen in US, read more and think again...
The trick behind this photo is that it reduces the world to tall people and boxes. In the real world, privilege is impossible to reduce down. The solution is always freedom. This is why some person working at McDonald's can buy an iPhone with access to the world's information. Meanwhile aristocrats in Venezuela are eating rats.
