What keeps you motivated to keep leetcoding, chasing TC/promos, getting into faang/hopping to another fang? Sometimes I feel its all just BS and not worth the effort... Anyone else feel this way?
Salaries and work are decent no matter what coast you live on and a few pockets in the middle like Denver or Austin. Really it's more about where you wanna live because east coasters have a different vibe than West coasters.
Getting the logo on your resume almost guarantees at least an interveiw to jobs you apply. Having the ability to "fire" an abusive manager or environment is more important than the money. As I settle down in life I start to see how delicate a motivated productive mindset can be. A job has diminishing returns for making money as it doesnt scale, it's just a good base and start, protecting your mind and spirit is paramount. Watch peter dinklage and iggy johnson motivational videos keeps me humble and hungry.
Get to FAANG first. Only then can you determine if it’s worth it for you or not. For most people, it is worth it.
Agreed. I think almost unanimously people would agree it’s ‘worth the effort’. Whether you like the company is a different question - but it greatly increases your chances of getting an interview at another company as well.
Yeah. I think for some people, it’s easier to say “it may not be worth it” to make themselves feel better about not being there. Put the work in, get there, and then say “you know what...my life was better at company X” ... I can completely understand this. But I think to try to make the determination of whether it’s worth it or not before you ever achieve getting there would be selling yourself short.
I know 3 people who just got jobs within the past few weeks. Here were there finals offers, total comp first year. Facebook: $417,000 Twitter: $362,000 Square: $375,000 That's enough to keep me grinding. Especially after living through this coronavirus, I see the necessity to make as much money as I can and save as much money as possible for times like these.
what were their YOE
Intrinsic love for algorithm and coding as a form of art. Its not all about money guys.
Tell that to the millions of people who just got laid off due to the coronavirus.
IHeart - you don't make sense. Especially your handle!
For me, it’s to achieve a goal/milestone that is entirely possible with the right amount of perspiration and luck. Doesn’t matter the reason you set the goal. I can’t imagine anyone joining their target company and then going ‘yea, that time spent solving programming problems was a waste of time - wish I didn’t do that’. It’s easy to get discouraged while grinding for anything, really. Keep going.
Only after getting into FAANG, I started thinking that it was not worth it. I still like the economic freedom that it provides me.
How much prep did you do to say that it was not worth it? Also, why do you think it’s not worth it?? Just curious
