What monetary tool(s) will the fed use during the next downturn?

With interest rates already pretty low, the fed doesn’t have much room to respond by simply lowering interest rates. What tools will they use when the next one hits?

Tariffs FTW. MAGA!!! 🇺🇸

The fed doesn’t own tariffs. That’s fiscal policy, not monetary policy.

The slowly dying optimistic side of me believes this was a joke, since it's so precisely wrong on so many levels.

In this political climate, no stimulus plan can pass the congress.

Monetary policy isn’t controlled by Congress. Only fiscal policy. I don’t recall if Obama’s bailout was bi-partisan but I imagine it was.

They will continue to debase the dollar and create inflation just as they have for nearly half a century, destroying the working class and all their productivity gains. Centuries from now people will look back and see this for the abomination that it is.

Inflation is under 2% for 10 years. Debase is what you do to hookers. You devalue currency. But it’s clear this is one of those gold-good/Fed-bad type people sooo, whatevs. Objective facts never matters to “you people”.

Debasing currency is technical term, albeit not one quite applicable in this context: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debasement

There's some room for rate cuts so they'd start there.

Im shocked no one talks about our $22tril debt...

Wasn’t the 2-trillion debt financed tax cut supposed to generate enough growth to erase it in 10 years? 🤣😅😅🤣🤣😅 I’m old enough to remember when Al Gore had a solid plan to eliminate this and the nation chose to spend trillions on a WMD-chasing war instead.

Oracle pzd Jun 10, 2019

The $2 trillion debt doesn't matter. A debt is just a long position on your own future. How exactly does the debt level make a difference anyway?
