I’ve been living in Switzerland for 4 years in the summer (completed 2 bachelor degrees). If you have lived in Switzerland for 5 continuous years, you get a permanent residence permit C that nobody can take away from you anymore. That is why I have a little incentive to stay in Switzerland for a Master’s degree for one more year to fill up these CONTINUOUS 5 years... if I’d leave Switzerland after 4 years to study in the US, then my 4 continuous years go back to 0... Under these circumstances, if you would have the choice between the following options: • MS in Management Science and Engineering @ Stanford (~100k USD total costs) • MS in Statistics (Data Science focus) @ ETH Zurich (~30k USD total costs) Which path would you go?
ETH Zürich is a world renowned school. Sure Stanford might be a bit more prestigious, but it’s not like you’re comparing a no-name school in Europe to Stanford. Plus Swiss residency will open so many doors.
TC or GTFO European comp is TERRIBLE
US will go back to normal quicker with fast vaccine rollouts(10% already vaccinated ). EU completely messed up theirs. Factor that in your calculations
If you are merely wanting to travel, then your decision is made. In the end, it won’t matter either way.
Stanford is overrated
If prestiges is a concern to you, I’ll tell ya Stanford masters aren’t that big of a deal.
Correct me if I am wrong , your Swiss Residence , still is not a EU blue card so you can stay and work but only in Switzerland right ? Also it seems a bit strange that they let you keep your residence even if you move away , usually in Europeran countries your residence gets invalidated if you moved for >90 days even for non-work purposes
C permit is not for life. It expires after mere 6 months out of country and then you're back at zero, too MSc in the US is more valuable as it opens to you job opportunities in the US (STEM OPT). If you stay in CH, there's few well paying jobs there. Besides Google Zurich, basically nobody would match the level of pay of big US tech companies today
U can be 4 years out of the country
That's not guaranteed and you need to provide a strong justification that you're not permanently leaving. Studying abroad or a _temporary_ work assignment for your swiss employer is ok. Taking up a random job unrelated to Switzerland is not. As is, obviously, leaving without any plan
Switzerland is literally my dream goal, I would do anything to be there
Lol do you have to ask???
Yes ... idk which path is better
