I just wanted to have a thread where everyone list their side hustle and share their story whether success or failure. I will start with mine. Graduated in 2012 in Tier 1 University. All my friends got into FAANG, I got 60k jobs with 0 stocks. Moved to another company for 75k in a year. Biggest mistake stayed there like 4 years. Then did contracting for 140k - 160k and right now 180k TC. Now on side what I did was Shopify and made almost 500k so far in profit selling just over 1.5 million. I also create apps for iphone and chrome extensions and sell them or some have monthly revenue like 5-10k per month. I just bought 2 restaurant for 350k each and they give me about 15-20k passive income per month. Also started some youtube channel and social media this year slowly making like 200 per month but goal is to make 1000 a month by end of this year. I still work as Enginner but my company is crap so actualy work is like 2 hrs per week. I do have to attend stupid meetings. But if you are in FAANG making 300k-500k, I mean you should be worth atleast double, why dont you work for yourself. Would love to hear story from others.#personalfinance #investments #stocks
They can’t if OP is using their own equipments (laptop and such). The best thing they can do is to fire OP
I had no idea, I guess I am not telling them but I basically outsourse my idea. I dont know if they can prove when I was thinking.
Idk if my startup would have taken off. I make 300-500 and the startup could be making millions or buried in legal lawsuits and papers 😩
I’m guessing the latter if it was making serious money
2 hrs/ week and paying 75k per year is much better than any faang
The grass is always greener on the other side.
This is a classic case of smart entrepreneurs who shouldn't get hung up on getting into FANG. Let your own brilliance shine.

Airbnb experiences - cooking class. Airbnb takes 20%, my cost is only 10% or less. Rest 70% is fully pocketed. 2 hr investment per class. People usually come in pairs, sometimes family - so multiple numbers at one shot. Some months( Valentine’s Day, July 4th weekend) I make 3K-4K with only 15 hrs of investment. Along with that I love cooking and meeting people both in the comfort of my home… so does not feel like work at all!!
That’s really cool
I recruit for investment firms on the side which brings me in about 30k/month on top of my salary
How do you do this?
I should prob mention that I have a decade of recruiting experience. But in my opinion, anyone with a big network in a specific industry could do this. Create an LLC, get a standard fee agreement with companies/startups and refer talent from your network
OP, how do you get users onto shopify store? My impression was that you either need a huge social media following or need to spend a ton on ads to get significant sales
Its all about product and how you present, I spend money on copy and good pictures. Once thats done ads seo, you will lose money on some but the goal is 10 products you may lose let say 1k on 9 products thats -9k but of 1 takes over its 100k.
Curious. I did some dropshipping before but was only marginally profitable. What type of products do you sell?
Funny. I’ve never heard of a restaurant as a passive investment
Need a good manager, just like anything you need a good person to run. Pay them well take care of them.
What kind of product are you selling on Shopify?
Whatever sells. I change from time to time.
