What the fuck are we all doing?

I feel absolutely trapped in this artificial competition created by companies to address shit problems their PR machinery spin as world changing. Fuck FAANG and the fucking investors and VCs that keep the machine oiled and running. How do I get out of this? CS and leetcoding are the only skills I know and I don’t want to lose them but I don’t want to be stuck building 1000 dollar monitor stands either.

Why are you so upset? You choose your path in life.

Apple onlinenow OP Sep 6, 2019

Yea, as an immature 18 yr old. I think I deserve a pass and an opportunity to course correct.

Google iTqD04 Sep 6, 2019

You are an adult; you are not a child.

eBay DickJonas Sep 6, 2019

You want to get out of FAANG ? Stop doing leetcode and chill

Google oxto67 Sep 6, 2019

Haha, it's pretty funny if you take a step back and think about it. What we do, chasing tc just to be able to buy assets in an ever more expensive market where we ourselves are responsible for driving up the prices. And all this in the pursuit of changing the world, or so we tell ourselves. TC btw ?

There is nothing better than mission and purpose. Think about it, you have a huge community behind you to implement your vision. Why not utilize it?

Good point! Let's all stop buying materialistic things!

Symantec GoRams Sep 6, 2019

We all want to drive fancy cars, dine at $$$$ restaurants, live high life. Saving humanity kind of companies won't pay enough $$$$$$$ to afford a luxury life. We want high paying jobs to pay the bills. If you are passionate about solving real problems, make those a hobby. Once the hobby gets you enough $$$$$$, quit this shit job.

Salesforce curious03 Sep 7, 2019

not everyone want to drive fancy cars, dine at $$$$ restaurants, live high life, thats so lame and not exciting for long, which fades way very quickly

I fucking love tech and high TC. I'm exactly where I want to be in life. Sorry you feel this way OP.

Microsoft wtfdudes Sep 6, 2019

I mean, fine and all, but nobody’s stopping you right now from taking the steps you need to, to better your life. If you’ve worked for at least a few years you already have much more money than you would’ve in any other career choice. So go now, take a pay cut and find your passion. And don’t give me the bullshit about being “trapped in the rat race for max tc and the lifestyle you’ve bought into and are dependent on tc for”. Either change or don’t complain. what else can you do? Literally anything you want. Take the extra tc from the last few years (or the next couple if you need) and retrain yourself to be what you want. What’s that? You want to feel better about yourself and also make a ton of money? Sorry, you’re SOL.

Apple onlinenow OP Sep 6, 2019

That’s exactly what I am asking, what careers can I find outside of tech if CS is the only thing that people are willing to pay me for?

Microsoft wtfdudes Sep 6, 2019

Did you read my comment at all? Let me try again. What do you WANT to do? What is stopping you from doing it, exactly, not some wishywashy ooo i don’t know if I can or whether they will. What can you do to remove blockers? For fucks sake, person, put some effort in.

Amazon jbvtfx Sep 6, 2019

pick something u like, get an entry job in it and enjoy!

Uber 2muchblind Sep 6, 2019

Dude, no one’s forcing you to stay in the industry. Plenty of folks would give an arm and a leg to be where you are today. But that’s fine, I honestly suggest you take up teaching, or become a lumberjack, or honestly just do anything. It’s your life 🤷‍♂️

Netflix Femme29 Sep 6, 2019

Felt that way when I was in Apple too. Get outta there!! That place sucks your soul

Apple picheswar Sep 6, 2019

What’s your story?

Netflix Femme29 Sep 6, 2019

I actually enjoyed my role and working with most my clients. But management sucked and made me absolutely hate working at Apple. Direct manager is prob devil incarnate, everyone knew it yet kept her there for some reason. In fact lots of dead weight where I was. Newbies lost their light soon enough. Brought the misery home which is no bueno. I’m also in HR which prob makes it more sad. When your respective HRBP tells you that the light and passion has clearly left your face, and that you need leave the company for your sanity you know it’s bad. I’m much happier now so far but lots of emotions leaving a company I actually loved and respected ruined by a few key a-holes.

You can switch to finance, at least it's more honest about the purpose.
