I think it's definitely a wonderful place especially some of the high performance distributed systems teams. I can definitely see that the code quality and the hiring bar in these teams is top-notch.
sure, these teams are like 1% of BB. The rest of the company is knee deep in the tech debt from the 80s.
Whoever this Pradeep is, he is a complete re⅞ard. The question is biased from the beginning. His comments have nothing to do with reality. Bbg is a tier 2 just because we don't spend enough of time and money on taking frameworks we develop to the world (aka open sourcing them). That takes time and effort. Company is very busy making money. So all of our projects are about building systems out of existing industry known and modern things. We do build many custom solutions, don't get me wrong, but they are just at a smaller scale and very custom tailored - not open source ready.
Absolutely true. Although I see a lot of things are changing for good. I have a feeling in few years Bloomberg will be a highly improved tech company
Please ignore this misleading post by some loser. Bloomberg is an amazing company. First of all, it’s NOT a typical Internet tech company like FAANG. It’s finance tech company, or sort of financial data provider + Facebook for financial world dating from 1980 (their IB). It provides the infrastructure for the whole financial world. The symbol of finance. BBG is unique and terrific: 1. If you like finance/market and Bloomberg may help open a window for alternative career. 2. Super super stable because no others could challenge. It has lots of cash so stay as private company not affected by the market. You can stay until get retired. The fancy and cutting edge tech at Google finance can challenge Bloomberg? Noooooo. This brings up the third point. 3. It’s success lies in not only tech but business. Many engineers and quants truly understand financial world and provide product that hits pain point. And they have sales contact at every financial institution providing the best customer support. Again fancy tech != successful business. 4. Culture is great definitely not throat-cutting like Amazon/fb/Uber/investment bank/fund. Great wlb. 5. Tech. Not fancy as FAANG who provides open source codes. Again because Bloomberg is successful in business with expertise in finance. Tech is just a tool. Not to mention many teams even financial analytics now migrate to new tech, don’t know why losers still spread rumors. People nowadays are brainwashed by tech. I’m sorry the world is NOT just tech but come in many options. If you really like tech please Leetcode hard to break into Google instead of ranting here like loser. While Bloomberg can be eye-opening experiences not just for tech.
