Was internally promoted and got decent refreshes, but my next year's annual comp (on prosper, not factoring stock price changes) is still ~20% less than my last year's rsu refresh + base + bonus, which is annoying. is this expected at tech companies or do people typically do something?
Unfortunately thats the bitter truth :( Specially if u got very good joining rsu package.
This is quite common. Talk to your manager. If they can't do something without it, consider getting offers elsewhere for a counter.
Move. This is common. In my case, there is no way they will give me enough rsu to match my starting amount given how much it has appreciated. i’d be making as much as a gm.

If you factor in appreciation there is just no way you come anywhere close to your TC after 4 years. Either get to L6 at google or Move to Facebook and then try to get to E6 there
The appreciation is a huge deal. If they gave you 100k/yr 4 years ago, that is pretty much 300k now. They’d have to give you 3x as much just to match. That is pretty much expecting your comp to almost triple every 4 yrs.
