Well sure, I can have fun without a huge group of people, but "just get out there" doesn't really mean anything to me. Hiking is great, but not really a way to meet anyone.
Are you an extrovert? I don’t know, but I think it can be challenging for introverted people who have a limited set of energy for socializing, and it drains faster around strangers.

Join some social club/group. I started volunteering for an education ngo and I made great friends which I hangout atleast once every two weeks outside of our scheduled volunteer time. Join clubs which don’t have a skewed gender ratio. I’m moving to the Bay Area soon from nyc and I’m terrified but volunteering has helped me jn the past and I already have a gig lined up for Bay Area. Dance/Bookclub/etc. anything which interests you really

Idk man adding an hour to my commute and doubling my rent doesn't seem worth it. I can go there on the weekends if it's actually that dead here.
Rent is the same, just less square feet. You can work on the bus or train. Try it for a few month (go by month to month rent) and then decide. It’s hard to make a decision either way if you have not tried it. I tried both and decided I rather commute to Mountain View.
