What a SWE does in investment banking? What are the type of project to expect? Is it good for the resume? Can it help to get into FAANG later? YOE: 2 TC: 60K
Are you a quant?
Id personally prefer an investment bank over Loreal. Major investment banks like goldman or JPM can be good, depending on team and area. They do have interesting technology problems. If you have a decent math background it can also be fun to work on quantitative financial problems, risk analysis, optimization problems, etc. Some of that's reserved for people with phds, but they often still need someone to implement and scale those solutions so you get to learn some cool analytical things in addition to the general swe work. If you end up in some random network engineering team or whatever, it's probably not any better (nor worse) than similar-sized companies in other industries.

Job market is brutal for SWEs 🥲
Terrible for resume, and you’ll just be treated as “the IT help”. If you’re working at the quant desk of Goldman or Morgan that’s one thing but if you’re an “engineer” in the actual investment banking division that’s basically a dead end job.
